RoHS, REACh and POPs

Rohs

RoHS stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. All our products meet the requirements of the RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU of the European Parliament.  They do not contain more than 0,01%, of the following mass substances: Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Hexavalent Chromium (Cr VI), Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB), Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE), Bis(2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP), Dibutyl phthalate (DBP), Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP): < 1000 ppm, 0,1%, for Cadmium (CD). 

REACH

Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACh) is a European Union regulation that was created to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks posed by chemicals, and to reduce the number of animal experiments. REACh applies to chemical substances that are used in industrial processes and occur in everyday life, such as cleaning agents, paints, and varnishes, and in products such as clothing, furniture and electrical appliances. The REACh regulation came into force on 1^st June 2007.

According to the REACh regulation, manufacturers or importers which produce or import substances in the European Union in quantities greater than one ton per year are obliged to register each substance. This also apples to substances, as a component of a mixture, or as an ingredient in a product.

All products supplied by Febrotec meet the requirements of the EU Regulation EG1907/2006 (REACh). As of 27 June 2024 ECHA (The European Chemicals Agency) has placed 241 substances in the Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern for authorization. No products supplied by Febrotec contain substances, or do not contain more than 0,1 % of the mass of substances, which are listed in the latest SVHC-candidate list published by the European Chemicals Agency: Candidate-list-table

POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants)

Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are organic substances that are only degraded or converted very slowly in the environment.

POPs include the pesticides DDT and lindane, polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and furans (dioxins and furans), industrial chemicals like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), and Decabromodiphenyl ether (DecaBDE, which is used as a flame retardant). For this reason, the Stockholm Convention was signed to restrict or ban the use of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in 2004. To be able to implement this agreement in the European Union the Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 was rewritten and replaced Regulation (EC) No. 850/2004.  Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 regulates the prohibition and restriction of the production and use of certain Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).

The list of POPs is regularly extended with new POPs. Currently, the Assessment Committee of the Stockholm Convention is discussing the possible ban of Dechloranes Plus (as flame retardants), methoxachlor and Perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS, for example as plasticizer, lubricant or in firefighting foams).

Dual-Use

We confirm that for all our products no export licences or export permissions for dual-use items are required.

Sec. 1502 Dodd-Frank Act and EU Regulation for Conflict Minerals

The raw materials, tantalum, tin, tungsten, their ores, and gold, often referred to as 3TG metals, are increasingly used in consumer products, electronic devices, and wires. 3TG metals are designated as "conflict minerals" through mining and trading to fund or support armed groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) or its neighbouring countries.

The organization, Conflict-Free Sourcing Initiative (CFSI) has developed a Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) to facilitate the collection of data on conflict minerals.

The Dodd-Frank Act has been legally binding since July 2010 and includes Section 1502 that requires companies to ensure that their minerals have been sourced responsibly and do not originate from the Democratic Republic (DR) of Congo or its neighbouring countries. Since January 2021, companies can be asked by their customers or suppliers to provide evidence of their due diligence at various points in the supply chain to ensure that their supply chains do not help to fund armed conflict.

None of the standard products supplied by Febrotec contains the raw materials tantalum, tin, tungsten, their ores and gold.
