common applications suitable for seawater resistant slightly magnetic a humid environment, but not
due to work hardening

Spring Surfaces

Compression springs made from 1.1200 spring steel are oiled.
Compression springs made from 1.4310 stainless steel are dry.

Spring Winding

The standard winding direction of compression springs is right hand winding. This means that if you look through the spring axis, the winding of a spring wound to the right moves away clockwise.

Setting Properties

Spring setting refers to a condition where the spring does not return to its original favourable length after being deflected (compressed) for the first time. This takes place when the material is deflected beyond its elastic properties.

Solid Height

If compression springs are compressed to such an extent that coil lies on coil, the remaining length of the spring is referred to as the solid height.  This dimension is only a reference dimension for us; the number of coils can vary in order to allow tolerance compensation with regard to the spring forces in production.

Spring Constant

If the spring rate c [N/mm] is multiplied by the travel s [mm], the spring force F [N] is obtained
F=c•s

“Spring rate” and “spring constant” are synonymous terms. As a rule, springs have a linear displacement-force ratio. There are exceptions for certain forms of springs such as conical springs, compression springs with different pitches, disc springs, e.g. slotted disc springs with a degressive/progressive displacement-force curve.

Exception

Constant force springs have almost the same force over the travel. In the case of extension springs, the linear force-deflection curve can begin at a higher level due to the pretensioning produced during winding

Tolerances

The tolerances for compression springs with the designation 0D... are according to DIN 2076.

The tolerances for compression springs with designation 0C...  are as follows:
